Great practice tonight for all those that made it out! We had good breeze and no one really seemed to mind the slight chill in the air. I took some video during tacks, at the starts and mark roundings and posted them to YouTube. As the fall goes on, I will hopefully hone my video skills to get the most out of these exercises. All in all, they aren't that bad. In the future, I will try and place comments at the bottom of each video about things to look at or work on and should be able to comment on this batch in the next day or so.

Cheers,

Buckeye Intersectional 4/12/2009

Buckeye Intersectional 2009
Hosted by Ohio State at Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio
April 11-12 2009

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday: Lake Erie was very uncooperative; supplying 20 knot winds gusting to 27 out of the North with swells up to 5 feet. A deliciously warm breakfast and lunch got the full attention of all sailors, as races were first postponed until 12:00, then until 2:00. Faced with no abatement of wind or waves and the idea of pulling sailors from the 35-degree water, race committee decided at 2:00 to cancel all sailing for the day. Temperatures in the low to mid 40's.

Sunday: In Cleveland fashion, Sunday's weather was world apart from the previous day's. With sunny skies and a very pleasant 10 knots from the Northeast, it was a great day of sailing. The Intersectional finished strong, managing to fit in 5 races per division. Temperatures in the mid 40's.

Thanks to all of the teams that attended the event. We appreciate the patience with the weather and the persistently high spirits. Congratulations to Vermont, with a runaway win. Also special thanks to Edgewater Yacht Club for their facilities and assistance.

Weekly Update 02/23/2010

  • The meeting is going to be at the same time and same place as last week. That is Arps Hall Room 388 at 8 pm on Thursday.
  • Maggie will be bringing OSU sailing merchandise to sell at the meeting. Most of it is at a very reduced price, so bring some money if you are interested in getting some cool apparel.
  • As always, there will be Nationwide event sign ups. There are only a few more we need to do then we will be done, so please sign up if you can. We get a lot of money for these events so we need as much help as possible
  • The Panini's fundraiser will be moved to spring quarter. We decided that the original date (March 11th) was too close to exams week. We'll keep you posted on the new date for it.
  • Our regatta this spring is coming up. We have filled up our race committee and are looking for a few more volunteers to help out. It should be a great weekend.
  • Last but not least, there will be a curling event next Sunday. More info on that at the meeting, if you have any questions about that, you can contact either Andrew Miller or Maggie Junkin.

Thanks guys, See you at the meeting!

-Evan Miller
